Helping churches to become healthy through embracing disability

November 11-12, 2022
Torrance, CA

All of us need grace. But for those who experience disability, that need feels uniquely urgent. Our churches should be places where they can rest in the pathways of grace: the places where they will most clearly see and experience the love of God through Jesus Christ. The aim of the Pathways of Grace Conference is to encourage and equip people from local churches who are currently involved or want to be involved in caring for others in their churches affected by disability.

Joni Eareckson Tada

Founder / CEO, Joni and Friends

Mrs. Tada serves as CEO of Joni and Friends, a Christian organization which provides programs and services for thousands of special-needs families around the world. Although a 1967 diving accident left her a quadriplegic, she emerged from rehabilitation with a determination to help others with similar disabilities. President Reagan appointed Mrs. Tada to the National Council on Disability, then reappointed by President George H.W. Bush. During her tenure, the ADA was passed and signed into law. Mrs. Tada served as advisor to Condoleezza Rice on the Disability Advisory Committee to the U.S. State Department. Joni Eareckson Tada has been awarded several honorary degrees, including Doctor of Humanities from Gordon College and Doctor of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary. She is an effective communicator, sharing her inspirational message in books, through artwork, radio, and other media. Joni and her husband Ken were married in 1982 and reside in Calabasas, California.

Greg Hubert

Senior Vice President of US Ministries, Joni and Friends

Greg serves as Senior Vice President of US Ministries with Joni and Friends. With a BA from Biola University and an M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary, Greg’s career includes over 30 years of pastoral leadership and corporate management. Yet his passion for ministering to the disabled is deeply personal. He and his wife Gina have raised three boys who are all on the autism spectrum, each of whom is viewed as a gift from God. They know firsthand the fears and struggles, joys and triumphs that come with any disability. It is their desire to love God and people, especially families created with God-designed abilities, pointing them to the confident hope in Jesus Christ.

Jon Hori

Regional Director, seeJesus Ministries

Jon is the seeJesus’ Regional Director for the West Coast and East Asia. Watching people discover the depth of God’s love for them and seeing them fall deeper in love with Jesus keeps Jon teaching, preaching, traveling, and praying through it all. Jon and Sonia have four kids and live in San Bernardino County, CA. They have now experienced first-hand the grace of disability in their own family, as God led them to adopt their daughter Eden from China.

Jon admits to an obsession with coffee, which has led him to amass a considerable collection of coffee mugs from around the world. His wife of 19 years, Sonia, has recently capped his collection (although he occasionally manages to sneak in a new one).

Anthony Kidd

Preaching Pastor, Community of Faith Bible Church

Anthony serves as preaching pastor at Community of Faith Bible Church in South Gate, California, and as a professor at the Los Angeles Bible Training School, which educates and trains Christian lay leaders for outreach and service in the greater Los Angeles area. Pastor Kidd has a passion to make the glory of God known and savored by all people through the preaching of God’s Word, both at home in the Los Angeles area and around the world. He and his wife, Sherry, have five children, one of whom has special needs.

He writes, “Disability ministry is vital to me because, as a father of a special needs daughter, I am acutely aware of the privileges and challenges associated with disability. And I am persuaded that only the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is equipped to walk alongside those living with disabilities in a holistic and God-honoring way.”

Kim Kira

Teaching Elder, Lighthouse Community Church

Kim is the primary teaching elder at Lighthouse. He loves being part of a church family that is committed to loving God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Kim is driven by a deep desire to encourage people to worship the true, Triune God of Scripture rather than the idols of the world. This itmade possible by the transformative power of the Gospel, the Good News that offers not only entrance into heaven but offers powerful and practical hope for change in everyday life. He has seen this Gospel transformation at work in Lighthouse as it continues to embrace the blessing of disability ministry.

Beyond ministry, Kim loves to spend time with his wife Jen and their four children, Caleb, Josiah, Karissa, and Carson. His other interests include the Lakers, the Dodgers, grilling red meat, snowboarding, and playing sports.
